Character Background
• History: Here!
• Core Relationships:
- Alphinaud: Alisaie's twin brother, and the person dearest to her heart. She has grown up in his shadow, and it has fostered in her something of an inferiority complex, despite the fact that she nearly matches him in intellect and skill. They bicker and poke at each other as all siblings do, but she is incredibly protective of him, and will do anything to see to his safety and happiness.
- The Warrior of Light: For the sake of clarity, Alisaie's Warrior of Light, a malleable protagonist, will be the "canon" one we see in cinematics: Meteor. One of Alisaie's dearest friends and role models. At first she wanted nothing to do with him, but as time went on she grew to care for him just as deeply as she cares for her family and loved ones. She admires Meteor to an almost hero-worship degree, and is always considering his feelings and burdens, going out of her way to assist and stand by him.
- Louisoix: Alisaie's grandfather and role model. In many ways he fostered her fiery spirit while she was young, while others sought to smother it, and she was incredibly devoted to him, even after he passed away, to the point that she would not rest until she learned the exact circumstances surrounding the mystery of his death.
- Urianger: Often lovingly called her "big bruncle", Urianger is of no relation to her, but he nonetheless was a close pupil of her grandfather, and so he often babysat the twins when they were very young. Alisaie loves him deeply, and though their relationship has been scarred by his necessary dishonesty, he always seeks to mend the rift between them as best as he can, and she is very close with him, despite his strange demeanor and penchant for secrets.
- G'raha: A dear friend and comrade. Though he was late to join her order, the two are nonetheless fast friends. She teases him quite a bit, and enjoys ribbing him, but they are both quite protective of one another and often team up together to face threats or go on missions.
- The Scions of the Seventh Dawn: Alisaie's many comrades in this order all mean a great deal to her, and together they have helped her come out of her shell. She was once quite prickly and did not often socialize, but thanks to her time with them, and fighting beside them, she has since become quite friendly and easy to talk to. They mean as much to her as family.
Character Personality Through Key Moments
(2+) Positive Experiences:
- Steadfast: Alisaie is an incredibly tenacious young woman, who sticks unerringly to her convictions. This is seen many times throughout her canon, but most importantly when she refused to give up on those tempered by primals, and influenced by sin eaters. Where most would write these people off for dead, Alisaie bent herself to finding a cure, and never once doubted that there must be a way to save them.
- Loyal: There is nothing more important to Alisaie than her friends and family. This is seen many times in canon when she steps in to protect her loved ones from blows, and stands by them even when their relationship is damaged - such as in the case of Urianger, mentioned above. Despite his lies she stands by him still, and forgives him his trespasses. She would lay down her life for her family and friends without hesitation, and has rushed headlong into danger more than once in order to secure her twin brother's safety.
- Compassionate: Alisaie's compassion is absolutely boundless, and extends even to those she has recently met. Several times in canon she steps in to protect those in need, and such is her love for the people of the world that she threw herself into searching for a cure for the tempered. Those tempered by primals or sin eaters are seen as hopeless causes, usually put to death, for it is thought that there is no cure, but Alisaie would not accept this. Loving to her very core, she fought tirelessly to find a way to reverse this terrible process, all for the sake of thousands of people she did not even personally know.
(2+) Negative Experiences:
- Reckless: Alisaie is quick to jump into the fray without looking out for herself, and nary a single expansion pack has gone by where she has not found herself near fatally wounded because she was not careful enough, or leapt into a fight without thinking first. While trailing the Warriors of Darkness, she took a poisoned arrow, and when she recklessly leapt in to fight Fordola, she took a terrible sword blow to her chest that took her weeks if not months to recover from. There is even a specific voice line in the game where she tells her brother to watch her back, for she was "about to do a great many stupid and reckless things."
- Poor emotional control: As large and compassionate as her heart is, this only makes Alisaie quite vulnerable to her own emotions. Not only is she quick to anger, as is seen many times when confronting the game's villains, or when Estinien dares to mistake her for her brother, Alisaie is also quite weak to sorrow. It took her years to come to terms with her grandfather's death, and when Tesleen was turned into a sin eater before her eyes she all but broke down on her knees. Alisaie feels her feelings very strongly, and while she does not allow them to break her, she is very vulnerable to negative emotions and painful goodbyes, and she is quite hot-headed.
- Prickly: Though she has come a long way on this front, Alisaie can still at times be a bit of a prickly individual, and does not make friends quite so easily as others might. This is due mostly to her brutal honesty and very straightforward and direct style. She scolds Ryne quite openly in Shadowbringers, about making promises that one does not intend to keep, and in the beginning of the story she does not so much as look at the main character, let alone speak with them, for many, many quests. Though she had her admirers while attending the Studium, Alisaie had no real friends, for she preferred instead to keep her distance. This has changed as she has grown, but her cynical, prickly streak does still on occasion rear its ugly head.
- And a more traditional personality write-up, to hopefully fill in any holes!
Alisaie is, to a word, direct. Bold, forward, and without hesitation, she's quick to assess and chase after her goals, and heaven help whatever stands between her and her destination. Though she does possess a rational side that can be appealed to, in general she's quite headstrong, far more likely to beg forgiveness than ask permission. Her will is iron, and once she has made up her mind it's a near insurmountable task to change it.
But of course, like any reasonable sentient creature, Alisaie is a many layered thing. She is bold, yes, but she is also cynical, kind, strong, loyal, isolated, funny, emotional, reckless. In stark contrast to her diplomatic twin brother, Alphinaud, Alisaie is his foil in every way, alike and yet apart from him, two halves of one whole.
To say that she is influenced by him would be a grand understatement. He is her twin, they spent their lives growing together, chasing and challenging one another, so it's only natural that much of her personality has been shaped and sculpted by her close growth beside him. Of course, considering this closeness, Alphinaud is incredibly important to her, and while Alisaie does not consider her loved ones many, those she does count among them she is fiercely loyal to. Not only Alphinaud, but also her grandfather, Louisoix, who left his family behind in order to understand, heal, and protect a faroff land wholly unfamiliar to her.
Given her emotional, fiercely forward thinking proclivities, for a very long time Alisaie viewed this as a betrayal. For all she is strong and skilled, she is surprisingly sensitive, easily hurt, and quick to snap in self-defense. It took some time for her to come to terms with this, Alisaie is stubborn in all ways, and sometimes it is difficult even for she herself to convince herself of things; it took her quite a long time to find her resolve, her own reason for fighting, for living, for defending the realm, though she did find it, and on her own. In all things, it sometimes takes her some time to come around.
Being one half of a set of twins has also had significant impact on her growth and development. It was all but impossible for others to not compare them, for them to compare themselves, and Alisaie certainly held herself to a certain standard in order to keep up with him. Despite her fierce initiative and drive, and the fact that they were both young prodigies, Alisaie always lagged slightly behind her brother in academia and ability, and her constant, unerring desire to catch up and match him surely influenced her. She is not necessarily insecure, but it was certainly frustrating, and without the same assurance that Alphinaud possessed, Alisaie found herself twisting in the wind quite often, never entirely knowing what step forward to take on which path. Without her brother's gift for speech, and her own penchant for speaking her mind thoughtless of consequences, she was not terribly popular among her peers, and she was often encouraged by peer and family alike to suppress herself and curb her candor. It was unbecoming, after all, for a Leveilleur, and an esteemed student of the Studium.
Louisoix, however, nurtured it, loved her for who she was, as she was, and for that love and support Alisaie was wholly grateful, and remained true to who she was, bluntness and all. She does not feel required to censor herself for anyone or anything.
This somewhat 'isolated in a crowd' lifestyle led her to be a bit cynical and scathing, with a somewhat jaded world outlook. It took quite a long time for Eorzea to grow on her, for she has no patience for blatant pettiness or the pointlessly convoluted contrariness of politics. This does not mean, however, that she is incapable of sympathy. In fact, she has rather a big heart, too big, for her recklessness, really, and though she tends to show her affection through prodding and teasing, she is a very kind girl, quick to help those in need. While she is quite rash, and tends to play fast and loose, she is not beyond reason, even if, at times, a steady hand is needed to rein her in. She is fiercely protective of the small circle of people she holds dear, and tends to lean to carelessness if they are threatened, most especially when her twin brother is concerned. Given this nature to rush forward, she's been injured and struck down quite a few times, but she has never stayed down, and is quick to jump back to work. More than once Alphinaud and others have had to gently force her to convalesce without hastening off too soon.
So in short, Alisaie is a fierce and formidable young girl, steadfast and loyal, daring and adventurous, doggedly stubborn, sensitive, and kind. She may very well be small in stature, but she is an absolute force to be reckoned with.
Deer Country Attributes
• Canon Powers:
Alisaie is a strong and skilled Red Mage, a sort of jack-of-all-trades class that affords access to elemental magical spells of both white and black variety that allow her to build mana, which she can then spend on powerful melee abilities executed with her rapier. A full comprehensive list of Red Mage abilities can be found here! Alisaie is also a talented Arcanist, though she does not use those skills as often anymore - however, a list of those abilities can be found here! Alisaie is also able to breathe underwater, is very athletic, and has enhanced hearing and sight thanks to her Elezen heritage.
• Blood Type: Paleblood
• Omen: A large bird reminiscent of a phoenix.
• Blessed Day: December 11th - the day her Grandfather left home (non-canon, there is no canon date for this)
• Patron Pthumerian: Dorothea. Alisaie will probably be a bit wary toward the Pthumerians at first, but as a bit of a gremlin herself, she will probably be delighted to have such a mischievous god in her corner. As an instinctual creature herself, as well as resourceful and clever, there would definitely be a resonance between them. Dorothea suits her personality traits quite well, and I think in time Alisaie might like to make friends with her, insomuch as she is able.
• Blood Power Manifestation: Though I plan to explore all the avenues open to palebloods, I am definitely looking forward to developing both her dreamwalking abilities, and her strength while at night, and as someone who is already deeply compassionate, Alisaie will surely struggle with the empathetic side of being a paleblood, which will likely impact her job, as I plan to have her be a Hunter. She will want very badly to save any beast she can before slaying it, if at all possible, as she did for the tempered people on her home world. As far as dreamwalking goes, she will likely develop this power to help others, as well as to make a little mischief, if I'm honest, and she will focus on strengthening herself beneath the moonlight quite a lot, for Alisaie is someone who is always looking to get stronger, and improve herself. She'll probably look into things such as astral projection as well, to use for scouting dangerous areas or checking in on those she cares about. I'll provide some additional bullet points below for more specifics!
- Dreamwalking: Alisaie will tackle this ability first and foremost, for at the beginning I think she will have little control over it, and find herself wandering into people's dreams unprompted, or accidentally pulling others into her dreams. As this is quite a violation of privacy on both sides, she will be quick to work on this skill. Once she is able to use it on command, she will like as not attempt to use it to help others if she can, to help turn nightmares into more pleasant dreams, or pull troubled dreamers into her own comfortably tailored dreams.
- Moon power/Transformation: As palebloods are more powerful at night, Alisaie will absolutely seek to use this to her advantage. She is always attempting to find ways to grow stronger and better herself. In time I think she would try to harness the power of moonlight directly, perhaps in ways that transform her appearance, especially on full moons, similar to lycanthropy, where she gains a burst of power and healing.
- Astral projection: This is a power that Alisaie will likely try to manifest on her own after she becomes more comfortable with the above abilities, as something of an extension of her dreamwalking. A skill like this is quite handy, especially when wanting to scout out dangerous areas or survey people or places without placing herself in direct danger. She will not be able to go far from her body at first, but with time she will be able to lengthen the distance she is able to travel from her sleeping form.
- Prophetic touch: Like her dreamwalking, this ability will come involuntarily to her. Occasionally upon touching people or certain objects she will learn a smattering of their memories, or, in the case of people, something that is yet to come. These prophecies may be entirely mundane, like what they will eat for breakfast tomorrow, or far more dire. She will in time learn to control whether or not her touch triggers a memory or prophecy, but she will never be able to control exactly what she sees or hears while engaged in the event.
